Joel Crouse Reveals Truth Behind Hit Song, “Oh Juliette”

Last night was opening night of the Night That You’ll Never Forget Tour, which kicked off in Portland Maine. Joel was extremely excited to be starting the tour in New England, as he was born and bred in Holland, Massachusetts. Tonight he is back in his home state at the Royale in Boston for night number 2. Joel spoke of how when he moved to Nashville 5 years ago, and he went to play his first gig with long-term friend Kyle Rife, the guy laughed when Joel said he was from Massachusetts. Joel confirmed what we all know to be true, the Northeast has some of the best darn country music lovin’ folk around!

Joel was excited to be back on the road, after his last touring stint with Darius Rucker and the Eli Young Band ended in early October. The Crouse crew will be jumping in Love & Theft’s tour bus instead of their ‘ol van this time around… how nice! (Pictured below!)

So now, the juicy stuff. Joel admitted that he usually makes up some “bullshit response” when asked about the girl who inspired him to write “Oh Juliette”. Last night, he revealed to us all that it was actually written about his FRIEND’S WIFE that was hitting on him/coming onto him! Let’s take a look at those lyrics and see if they hold a different meaning now!

“A couple of drinks makes it all so easy
Strangers become lovers every night
I could tell you’re wounded because you cry so freely
As you tell your story with those lonely eyes

Oh Juliet, You’re so beautiful and yet
I don’t have the heart to break your heart
I can’t believe I’m saying this
‘Cause I can almost taste your kiss
But I can’t finish what you want to start
Oh Juliet, stay innocent

You’re looking at me like I must be crazy
‘Cause you know I know how good this would be
For a superman or a savior you’re a sweet dream
How about I start by saving you from me

Oh Juliet, You’re so beautiful and yet
I don’t have the heart to break your heart
I can’t believe I’m saying this
‘Cause I can almost taste your kiss
But I can’t finish what you want to start
Oh Juliet, stay innocent

I can’t believe I’m saying this
‘Cause I can almost taste your kiss
but I can’t finish what you want to start
Oh Juliet, stay innocent
Oh Juliet”

Luckily it appears that Joel was a good boy and behaved himself despite the advances of a married woman, but we do have to agree with her on one thing: Joel is pretty darn adorable. We’d probably hit on him too if we had the chance.

Here’s a short clip of Joel and Kyle performing his first radio single, If You Want Some from last night’s show.
